HVAC Tips to Reduce the Risk of COVID-19

With the COVID-19 pandemic still raging, HVAC professionals are constantly looking at ways to help reduce the spread of the virus indoors.

Boosting fresh air, regulating humidity, and improving air purification in a home and/or business can all play a role in helping to minimize the risk of COVID-19.

HVAC systems can have a positive and/or negative impact on air quality and while there is no 100-percent guarantee, there are ways to reduce the risk. Reducing the amount of stale air buildup in your home, business or office space not only reducing the risk of exposure but can also boost your immune system overall.

Poor ventilation, which requires both the removal of stale air and introduction of fresh, outdoor air in the right direction for keeping your exposure and reducing your risk of infection. Also, tighter humidity control can also help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Drier air allows smaller aerosols containing the virus to remain suspended longer, exacerbating the spread of airborne viruses like COVID-19 while lower humidity also dries out mucus membranes, making one's body more welcoming to the virus as this defense mechanism is rendered impotent. Adding humidity to your home, ideally via a whole house system with proper control, will reduce your risk due to poor humidity.
